The Philadelphia Eagles announced that quarterback Jalen Hurts agreed to on a five-year contract extension through the 2028 season. The deal, according to several reports, is for $255 million ($51 million per year), highlighted by $179 million guaranteed. It also features the first no-trade clause in team history.
Hurts, who turns 25 on Aug. 7, is now the highest-paid player in NFL history in of average annual value. He was drafted No. 53 in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Putting Hurts Deal in Context
In his third season, Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to just the third Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. The Birds lost to the Kansas City Chiefs and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 38-35, on Feb. 12 in Glendale, Ariz.
In that game, Hurts totaled 374 yards of offense. He completed 27 of 38 es for 304 yards and a touchdown plus had 15 carries for 70 yards with three rushing TDs (a Super Bowl record for a QB). Hurts also converted a two-point conversion to tie the game at 35-35 with just over five minutes remaining before Mahomes and the Chiefs took over for the winning score.
Mahomes, of course, is on our list. Picked 10th overall by the Chiefs in the 2017 draft, Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million pact four years later. The following season, he led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl LV, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Not all the quarterbacks led their teams to postseason success after g for crazy big bucks.
In fact, Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Russell Wilson (Broncos), Deshaun Watson (Browns), Matthew Stafford (Rams) and Kyler Murray (Cardinals) did not make the playoffs at all the year after g major contracts.
It is unusual that a quarterback who earned that kind of money isn’t a first-round pick.
But Hurts is not alone on that list. Wilson was a third-round pick and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys was a steal in Round 4.
Also of note, Hurts is ed on the list with two other NFC East signal callers: Prescott and the Giants’ Daniel Jones.
